They are not artistic sculptures, but pan mats. They were designed by YOSHITAKE Mosuke who was the great product designer in Japan in the middle 1900s. The pan mats are reproduced by MASUDA Naoki, a protege of YOSHITAKE. YOSHITAKE designed them 1966, but they look so modern as if they were designed this year.

A very delicate and gorgeous design…. modeled on Japanese autumn flowers. The plate is made of iron and laqcuer.

In origin, lacquer is a tough and hard paint. Though, because of the way it is purified, it could not show its true toughness. Jun urushi has overcome that point, they can be washed in a dishwasher and are suitable for use at restaurants.

The lacquered tableware comes into its own when it is used iteratively. While urethane-painted tableware becomes depleted after each use, the lacquered tableware becomes more shiny. It is the feature of natural lacquer.

Lacquer is such a safe material that it is suitable for children. The lacquered tableware is made of wood, so they stay cool when are filled with hot food. The Jun urushi tableware is not only elegant but also useful for everyday life.
